Lake Level and Drain Special Assessments

Lake level special assessments and drain assessments are often controversial projects that demand transparency, extensive communication and a unique knowledge base. We work on assessment projects throughout the State of Michigan, providing our partners and municipalities with much-needed communications and public and media relations support.

Property Owner Communications
In a lake level special assessment project for Roscommon County, we educated over 5,000 property owners about the assessment process through a website, informational meetings and direct communication with property owners, to name a few.
Our staff has been educated on the legal lake level special assessment and drain assessment processes, making it easy for us to field property owner questions. One of the first steps we take is to set up an email inbox and voicemail box as a central place for questions and comments. Our team monitors the inboxes and responds to all questions received. We report specific metrics back to the team to find trends and keep a pulse on how the community and property owners are feeling.
Project Websites
Creating an informational website is an excellent way for property owners to access information about the project independently. For special assessments, a successful website includes an overview of the project, strategic FAQs, a document library and information about upcoming meetings and hearings. Trapani Communications handles logo creation, branding, and website creation and management during the project. Here are some examples of our work:
- Forest Lake (Arenac County)
- Big and North Manistique Lakes (Luce and Mackinac counties)
- Grand Lake and Lake Esau (Presque Isle County)
- Four Lakes Task Force (Gladwin and Midland counties)
- Sugar Springs (Gladwin County)

Print Materials & Mailings
Property owner mailings are one of the most effective ways to educate and notify property owners. Our team will write and design the letter and coordinate with the printer to get it out on time. We ensure that all legal communications requirements are met. Mailings sometimes also include FAQs, brochures and surveys.
